My Family Album
The tricky situation of my "family album"
On the right hand side of the photo their is the Grace family and on the left hand side their is the Pitsilos family and in the middle, their is the Hoggs.
The grace family, is my ex girlfriends family. people would normally say thats weird being apart of your ex girlfriends family, but really its not. Life is weird and what is "normal"?
The reason we are so close is because I used to live with them for 5 years. Kate (my ex girlfriend) is like a sister to me, we together for 6 years. having that history together is not just something you can throw away. We have grown up together. We shared our ups and downs, sad and good times.
The things the grace family has done for me I will never be able to repay them, they are some of the most lovely people iv ever met.

The Pitsilos family is my girl friend Andreas family, they have been kind enough to take me under their wing for a while. Its not official they have done this, but I stay at their house almost every night. I can thank them enough. It is only very temporary why I have been staying, because at my house their is no internet or computers.
I come along to all their family get togethers and gathers to celebrate the greek traditions they share and practice. Some of the time I can help but feel a sense of sadness and happy at the same time. I feel this way because I can see the closeness they all share, I see how lucky they all are to have one another close by. So in other words i'm jealous, because their family has something my family might never have.
My true blood related family is the Hoggs, we have been split and and moved all across the planet through no fault of our own. We love each other like nothing before but our lives are so busy and in different places we unable to see each other. Its completely impossible just to drop everything to see one another. The things I would do just to see my family all together again.
We have photos of us all together but the angle I was hoping for more recent photos of us together.
Most of the time we get to see each other is photos through some else's experiences. Mainly via Skype or Facebook.

Ideas and For Presantation
Scott Hazzard, is a fine art photographer. he has a series called "Torn Photos"
http://www.booooooom.com/2012/07/27/torn-photos-by-scott-hazard/
I like the principle that the tears in the photo are almost as if its a void sucking everything into. In a way the voids could be "death" and slowly its sucking the life out of us every moment. We may not notice but their it is in the background.
This idea is a little to dark but still its a start

Further Developments of "Life"
This image was taken of me on top of Tunnel Mountain in Banff Cananda back in 2010.
The idea of doing things what we want to, without a care (not at anyone else's expense) living life to its fullist. Wether it be a activity, action or something out of our usual routen. Just to break up our boring lives. To truly appreciate what we have, where we are, who we are.

Here is a quick mind map I have whipped up just to get a bit more inspiration

introduction and ideas
The overall folio must be well presented flowing narrative, with a human experience. The ideas can be personal or non personal. Narratives that have a personal flow would be a better approach I believe. In doing so, I have to ask my self questions such as why am I the person who has to tell this story? and if I don't do something personal I really know I have to challenge my self, but how?
my ideas:
- The contrast between rich and poor. How some rich people think things just happen because they do, while the poor have to work for every thing they get. In a lot of ways the poor are generally happier then most rich people.
- How we live in such a superficial society, where everyone is so "fake" and "two faced". Everything is so disposable and in the sense, worthless. How people can bluntly ignore someone and pretend there life doesn't even exits or is even worth their time of day.
-The idea of being trapped in Canberra. At this point in time I haven't been stuck in one place for so long. For the past 7 years every few months I would move house or into a new area. So in other words I'm really excited to get out their and start seeing the world again!
-Around some people I couldn't be happier, but then being around certain people they make me feel like complete shit. They take away my sense of belonging, making me feel as though I don't fit in anywhere in society. This feeling isn't their a large majority of time, and %99 of the time i couldn't be happier. It's only when these people are around that I actually start to feel sad and low about myself.
-we are all going to die, so make it last! live life to the fullest and have fun doing it. We spend so much of our lives stuck doing things that we don't enjoy. At our funerals people aren't going to mention how much overtime we did at work or how big our salary is at the end of our lives.

i don't like any of my ideas..... apart from the last one, much more positive note....hehe
Andreas ideas:
-Traditions - within my extended family, how they've changed through time, how they can shape us, how greek culture effects our traditions. I could go into rituals and beliefs as well as traditions of family members. I could take an informal portrait of each family member practising a tradition/ritual of theirs, showing who they are and what their beliefs are. It could be interesting to see the differences in each family members personal traditions in a whole 'album' type book similar to a family photo album. What got me thinking about this was a conversation me, my mum and cousin were having the other day about another family member. We were talking about how my uncle and aunty were saying that all they want for their daughters was to 'find a nice greek boy'. Because one is already dating an Australian boy which has caused tension within the family. examples: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/05/pictures/110511-best-pictures-sony-world-photography-awards/#/world-photography-contest-2011-portrait-dinner_35444_600x450.jpg
-Confidence - something I struggle with every day, not having the confidence to do or say what I really want to. This would be going into a very personal direction which I think could be really good for me to explore and possibly interesting for others
-Money - how we're forced to live in a world where money is always the issue. I wish I didn't have to worry about money. Having money / not having money - how there's nothing really good about it.
